• John Calkins Brookings, Oregon 97415. One year's misidentified species belonged to Callopanchax which was created in 1933 and that the name Callopanchax has not been used any more since 1933. 2. In Myers request the stability and universality of Roloffia was not mentioned. 3. Clausen was not able to ob j ect to the request because he was so seriously ill. 4. The members of the Commission were able to vote only for or against Myers request because of the type of vot ing papers and therefore did not have the possibility of applying the principle of stability and universality. From opinion 1010 can be seen that several members of the Commission strongly vetoed the request made by Myers. They remained, however, in the minority since the other members were not informed about the different aspects of the case. In his letter published in JAKA-KN, April 1975, Myers suggests that killifish keepers forget both Roloffia and Callopanchax and refer all the species to Aphyosemion. He furthermore maintains that even Scheel agrees with him that the species referred to as Roloffia are not distinct enough from the species of Aphyosemion to j ustify placing them in the separate genus Roloffia. This statement, however, stands in complete contrast to what Scheel says in his letter of 11-22-1965, and to the previously mentioned article of Dr. Grimm. Myers had also forgotten to inform the readers of JAKA-KN that he based his request to the Commission merely on his own mistakes. In his request, Myers did not consider in any way that he was destroying the extremely valuable scientific work of Clausen. This work came to fruition after years of research in West Africa and at the expense of Clausen's health. In the meantime a request for revalidation of Roloffia to the Nomenclature Commission has been drawn up. It is well substantiated and is supported by well-known scientists. The Commission will now have to come to a new decision according to its own rules while considering at the same time and impartially all the relevant information. It will have to come to a decision which is above any personal or political considerations, if it is to maintain its excellent reputation. Otherwise the Commission will become a sort of Nomenclature "UNO." After having considered all the different aspects of the revalidation request, the Commission will surely be able to come to a j ust decision

• could be filled. On the eggs, shipments were made un- til the cold weather set in. Unfortunately, the breed- ers did not survive the winter, therefore Roger states he will be unable to fill any outstanding orders for the above fish and eggs. The NSC is now offering eggs of Roloffia SL-18. This fish has been identified as a subspecies of Hol- offia roloffi. It is a very handsome fish, and the eggs are $2.00 per dozen including postage. Roger states that no payment be made until the eggs are re- ceived, but drop him a card right away if you want to Fairfield, Conn. 06430. Roger also states that he has a very desirable and extremely rare species, that he hopefully will be able to offer the membership lat- er on this year. The site of the 1969 Convention will be Rickey's Hyatt House Garden Hotel in Palo Alto. This is a beautiful place, and the weather will be warm in Sep- tember, so bring your swim-suits along and take ad- vantage of their 2 beautiful swimming-pools. The fac- ilities are excellent, and this will be in line with the quality of the show and program being prepared. If strongly urge each and every one of you to attend if this is in any way feasible. • A New Killifish From the Congo In March of this year a friend of mine whose sister is married to a Protestant minister in Brazzaville, Congo, went to visit them for four months. Though he is an aquarist, he didn’t think of taking fish with him on the way back. Therefore, I decided to write to him and ask him to look around for fish, requesting him to take everything he could get, especially killifishes. As he didn’t answer, I did not know what to expect. Then came a telegram advising me of his return trip. The day came and I was eagerly awaiting but I was a little disappointed when he arrived with just one small plastic sack. There were not more than ten fish in it. After a few days in my tanks, I concluded that there sure was something new there! Six of them were a fish very close to Aphyosemion roloffi, most likely that fish. They were divided into 4 males and 2 females. The other 4 remaining fish were a mystery, however. There was 1 male and 3 females and after looking through various books and talking to my friend, Alfred Radda, I still didn’t know what they were. This fish resembles more a Nothobranchius than an Aphyosemion, something like our Aphyosemion walkeri. The females are very close to those of walkeri and hardly differ. The only difference is a light, reddish coloration in the dorsal, anal and caudal fins. In all other aspects, including also the small red dots on the body, the female is hard to tell from one of walkeri. The coloration of the male differs from walkeri although there is a little similarity. The whole body is more greenish than blue, and on the belly, the green changes into a dark-orange. All fins are bright-yellow with reddish, sometimes wormlike, dots and lines. The dorsal, anal and caudal fins are dark-red or often black- bordered. The caudal fin doesn’t have filaments such as does wal- keri, but is more like one of Aphyosemion gardneri or better still, Aphyosemion coeruleum. The length of the male is about
• clear with lots of mud on the bottom. The pool was about 6 feet long and of nearly the same width. The greatest depth in one corner was nearly 1 foot. The temperature of the water the day they were caught (at 3 PM) was about 90° F. There was bright sunlight with no shade about. The hardness was 4.5 DH and the pH (measured electrically) was 6.8. There were no plants in the pool except algae and no other fishes were present either. My friend told me that the pool dries up in the summer and that there is no water for about 6 months. Therefore, they must be bottom spawners most assuredly. Until now I haven’t gotten a single egg from these fishes although they are eating very well. They are shy, not at all like the Aphyosemion roloffi(?). I lost one female but the others are round and full with eggs. I hope to be able to breed them and to be able to report more about this fish soon in the pages of KN. Highlights in by Henry Pinda, Lake Worth, Florida This article will treat in brief, the spawning and incubation of Petrolebias longipinnis and Nothobranchius guentheri. I have been asked by many AKA members about the care of these two particular killies but it is only after very long study that I feel I can now finally bring my experiences to the attention of other club members. What took two years of investigation, including over 150 experiments, I shall try to summarize in as short a story as possible. About two and a half years ago I received from Dick Haas a small package containing the eggs of these two species. These, I had great pleasure in hatching, resulting in 11 guentheri and
