Hey everyone,

I’ve kept a few nothos over the years as I live in Kentucky and it’s hard to find killifish here. My 11 year old and 7 year old had started working with fry and have been doing quite well. The only problem we are having is the eggs came from Amazon and have abysmal hatch rates. We’re out $60 with 3 fry hatched despite multiple drying wetting cycles. Aquabid seems to be all nonannual in the US and those just don’t hit us the same as the gorgeous annual fish. Any tips or resources for finding eggs? I joined the aka as when I snooped around it said the sales forum often hosted eggs but it seems that was a little outdated.

Hello David,

If you’re interested in some Notho eggs, I have several peat-incubated bags of N. korthausae Mafia Island TZN 08/4 that are ready to hatch. This is not the red strain, but has yellow and black stripes on the caudal fin. I cannot guarantee a hatch but my success rate is fairly high with these. N. korthausae are one of the easier beginner Nothos, and I’d be happy to send you a bag to try out. A good hatch will result in 50+ fry, sometimes a few hundred.

Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll send them in the mail. The AKA discourages Nothos in their program for a free beginner pair of killifish because they are a little more challenging than non-annual fish, but I am happy to send these!
