New member here and not sure where to post an introduction so here it is. I am new to killifish but have been keeping aquariums on and off over the last 40 years. Wanted to try my hand at some of the fish not available at my local fish store. In the past i have had the usual rocket killi and golden wonder tanks but think it's time to try something new. Glad to be here and thanks to the AKA forum my knowledge is slowly growing about these wonderful and fantastic fish.

Hi Tyrone,

Thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here.

As for killifish I am interested in to start with is Aphyosemion australe. I got to see some in a tank a few years ago and thought they were interesting as well as beautiful to look at. It was suggested by a local fish keeper that I should look at Fundulopanchax gardneri as a first killifish to get my foot in the door and learn with. He said he had good luck with them in the past.

Hi Scott,

Where are you located? We might be able to put you in touch with someone nearby with australe.

Contact Charlie Nunziata. He may be able to fix you up with some Aphyosemion australe Cap Esterias BSWG 97-24. They are lovely fish and are not hard to breed and about as easy as the gardneri. An added bonus is that we have these in our Killifish Conservation Program as this population has supposedly been destroyed in the wild and can't be recollected.

Photos are up at http://img.kil.palo-alto.ca.us/a/AUS/Cap_Esterias/BSWG_97-24/

I have these too but had a rough winter and don't have spare fish.

Keep well

Hi Tyrone,
I'm located just north of  Kansas City, MO in a suburb and am looking for someone in my area for sure. I am hoping the local club might be a source of information if I ever get to go to a meeting as my current work schedule is tough. You are correct sir as the australe is a striking looking fish.  Tyrone Genade wrote on Mar 8th, 2022 at 8:44am:

Scott,

I do most of the beginner's species breeding & Beginner's species shipments.  I have chocolate Australe, multiple young pairs.  I can't ship right now because its too cold here in Minnesota, however, once April rolls around I'll be able to send to you a pair.  I'll be listing beginner's species on line the website  once the weather conclusively breaks here in Minnesota.

I hope this helps, best wishes,

Jim Langan, AKA Webmaster

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply and the offer. Unless something presents itself locally, I will get in touch with you in April.

Thanks
