Aphyosemion (Diapteron) seegersi?
May 1st, 2017 at 8:44am

Internet sleuthing shows me that this species has been shown and sold in Europe over the past few years.  I haven't found anything indicating that it has been in North America except a European reference about a particular collection before the turn of the century where "some were sent to Japan and the USA."

Does anyone have any information about this species currently being in North America?

That's a great question I've asked as well. I believe it's supposed to be thought that in the USA, it's believed to be abacinum.

Hello,

I have seen seegersi from the type location (http://tgenade.freeshell.org/pictures/dseegersi.jpg) as well as abacinum from their type location (http://tgenade.freeshell.org/pictures/abacinum.jpg).

The seegersi look like the fish we call abacinum. In the wild, abacinum exists as two color morphs, those that look like this: http://www.aquabid.com/uploads/fwkillifishe1499616188.jpg and those that look like the fish in other photo.

It seems likely that seegersi is a color variant of abacinum but there hasn't been enough sampling to be sure of this.

I don't know if seegersi is in the US but there is someone in the Czech Republic that sells eggs of them on Aquabid.
