Terms of Service: American Killifish Association (AKA)

Effective Date: March 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing https://aka.org and participating in AKA programs, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the site.

2. Membership & Proprietary Content

  • Digital Content Restrictions: All members-only content, including but not limited to the digital version of the Journal of the American Killifish Association (JAKA), is for the sole use of active members.
  • Prohibition of Sharing: Strictly forbidden is the redistribution, sharing, or public posting of members-only content or digital JAKA files with non-members or on external platforms.
  • Account Security: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials used to access this proprietary content.

3. Member Roster & Privacy

  • Authorized Use: The Member Roster is a private resource for personal communication between members.
  • Prohibited Use: Scraping or using the roster for commercial solicitation or mass marketing is strictly prohibited.
  • Visibility: Your information is visible to other logged-in members unless you adjust your privacy settings to limit display.

4. Classifieds & Shipping: Code of Ethics

All members engaging in the exchange of fish or eggs via the AKA website or Business Newsletter (BNL) are bound by the AKA Code of Ethics. Key requirements include:

  • Condition & Nomenclature: Offered fish must be in top condition and clearly sexable. All nomenclature and location codes must be correct.+1
  • Shipping Guidelines: Non-annual eggs should be shipped when fertility is apparent , while annual eggs must be shipped in ample peat.+1
  • Live Delivery Guarantee: Live delivery is guaranteed from April through October. Shipments from November through March are made at the buyer’s risk.+1
  • Replacements & Refunds: If items arrive dead during the guaranteed months, sellers should replace them at no charge, though postage remains the responsibility of the recipient. If items are unavailable, a refund (less initial postage) should be issued.+1
  • Transaction Timing: Orders should typically be shipped within two weeks of payment receipt.

5. Dispute Resolution & Conduct

  • Initial Settlement: In the event of a disagreement regarding a transaction, parties should first attempt to settle the matter between themselves.
  • Formal Complaints: If a resolution is not possible, a written complaint may be made to the F&E Chairman or website administrator.
  • Penalties: The AKA Board of Trustees (BOT) or administrators may bar offending members from future listings or, in severe cases, pursue expulsion from the Association.+1
  • Scope: The AKA can only assist in matters for transactions initiated through official AKA channels (the website or BNL).

6. Limitation of Liability

The AKA is not liable for damages resulting from your use of the website and does not guarantee the absolute accuracy of user-submitted listings.

7. Changes to Terms

The AKA reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Users will be notified of significant changes via website announcement or email.
