Size

32· 3mm (males). Females reported to grow larger (4cm?).

Type Locality

Collected close to Samalofila, southwest of Bamako, Mali.

Distribution

Restricted to the area of the type locality.

Habitat

Slow flowing streams with clear water & aquatic vegetation. This sp. inhabit the surface levels.

Distinguishing Characteristics Differs from other closely related sp. in that the female grows larger than the male.

Discovered by Dr. V.Etzel, November 26th 1991.

Breeding Notes

First breeding report on this sp. from the original description where eggs were said to be large & deposited in fine plants & mops in the lower levels. Eggs could be left with the parents. Incubation time 15 days at 23-25°C. Fry required infusoria as a starter food going on to newly hatched brine shrimp. Growth reported as fast with sexual maturity at 6 months. Full size takes 12 months.
