I have been focusing on SJO and noticed that my bare bottom tank pair is producing more than my planted aquarium pair. To the fellow members; what is your preferred method for conditioning and breeding? Do you use bare bottom or have more success in a planted aquarium?

Bare bottom makes things a lot easier to collect eggs - nearly all the eggs laid will be concentrated on spawning mops rather than scattered around plants.  It also makes it easier to catch and rotate the breeders if you're resting and conditioning them.

SJO are mostly bottom spawners, and if you wanted to introduce some plants in a bare tank for water quality and cover, I would suggest floating plants such hornwort. 

Max. Given the option Blue Gularis are going to spawn in the sand and/or gravel if it is there. For breeding all my Blue Gularis tanks are bare bottom (outside bottom painted black). They can be spawned using bottom mops, peat/coco coir or bowls of green sand. If you experiment a bit you will also find that some prefer different mop colors. I have some pairs that prefer dark green, green/brown mix and yes, even a dark red mop.
