Force Hatching...When are Eggs Ready to Hatch?
by Norm Ruebsamen

Some Killi eggs don’t always hatch on time. When your expected hatch date comes and goes, check the “eyes” of the embryo in the egg. Even without a microscope you should be able to see the embryo in the egg. If a gold ring is visible around the eye of the embryo, the fry can be force hatched.

There are several methods of force hatching. My favorite is to place the eggs in a film container full of water and add a small amount of micro-worms. Exhale into the container several times, cap it, and carry it around in a warm pocket. Check it every 1/2 hour. Most all of the fry will hatch within a couple of hours.
