First Description

Size

25mm (males). Ahl reported maximum size in males at 27mm. Females are smaller.

Meristics

D = 6, A = 12-14, D/A = 7, ll = 22-24.

Populations

  • Agamé, Mono River
 
Type Locality

Djeta ( then known as Dje Ta ), southeast Togo.

Distribution

Restricted to the area of the type locality southeast Togo near to the border with Benin.

Habitat

The type locality is considered to be brackish. Sympatric sp. A.bitaeniatum.
Brackish lagoons, clear slow (to zero flow) flowing streams in secondary forested areas. Freshwater habitats are pH acid. Water temperature 20-30°C.

Discovered by Dr. Keilhack. Collected later by Heinz Brachet in 1979 near Agamé & P.Bousseau near Anécho on the Mono River.

Breeding Notes

Although this sp. has been reported as being brought back from Togo no accounts are available regards breeding. Most likely it would follow the pattern typical of west African lamp eyes. The addition of salt could prove useful.
