Populations

 
Type Locality

Western shore of Lake Moero (Lake Mweru) at Kilwa, Shaba Province, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Distribution

In the Luapula drainage, Lake Mweru, Lake Young, the Luombo and Zambezi River drainages in northeastern Zambia. May be present in Lake Upemba. Balon and Stewart in 1983 reported them from the Luongo River, Congo system, Zambia.
Also found widespread in the Kasanka National Park, Zambia.

Habitat

Swampy areas & rivers drainages.

Boulenger gives the following collectors / locations in his 1915 Catalogue.

  • 1-6 (Types) collected Lake Mweru at Kilug by Dr.L.Stappers.
  • 7-11 (Types) collected Lake Mweru at Nkole by Dr.L.Stappers

Remarks

Over fishing, dams & over drawing water by the native people put pressure on this species. Fish was addressed with a ban on fishing the Congolese side of the border. Fishing was later allowed with larger net sizes.
