Enugu
History
|
Collected by N.W.Emery. I cannot find data to put a date on collection but it is certainly before 1975. It is possible he also caught E.biafranus at the same time. |
Habitat
|
This
population lives in small backwaters around Enugu. This location is situated
slightly northeast of Udi & south, southeast of Nsukka. The biotope photo I have shows a small pool (or stream section) approx. 3 metres wide at its widest point. The banks are heavily overgrown with grasses which overhang the edges. A fairly tall tree grows on the waters edge. |
Traits
|
It is said to be similar to Port Harcourt but the submarginal red band is darker in unpaired fins. |
Variability
|
Perhaps only the images by Emery have been taken to depict this population. |
Notes
|
It is interesting to note that there are 2 locations in Nigeria called Enugu which are quite close to each other. One is north, northeast of Udi & south, southeast of Nsukka, the other is between Onitsha & Awka, to the west of Udi. Doubtful if this population has been circulated in captive breeding efforts (2002). |
